Research Areas

Our research areas at a glance

Intelligent manufacturing systems: production planning and optimization, logistics

Trough our IMS projects we address advanced manufacturing science resulting in reduced costs, increased sales, reduced waste, reduced resources requirements, and others.

Topics:

  • Simulation and optimization of manufacturing processes
  • Enterprise logistic processes
  • Collaborative virtual environment
  • Decision support systems and knowledge management
  • AUTO-ID - RFID - tracking and tracing systems for logistics and production

Information retrieval and management

Information retrieval (IR) means finding material (usually documents) of an unstructured nature (usually text) that satisfies an information need from within large collections (usually stored on computers).

Topics:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Knowledge discovery and automatic extraction
  • Extracting implicit and potential relevant information
  • Automated data filter
  • Data mining
  • Ontology

SEA (Search engine agents): Intelligent agents and Multi Agent Systems(MAS)

Knowledge based systems

By this research direction we are looking for systems that allow users to reuse past experience related with the process handled. We are looking to integrate ontology and case base reasoning engine for different applied topics.

  • Possibility to access and reuse past experience embedded in formalized cases
  • Availability of standard functions for known case definition, for validation of new ones and for defining the necessary ontology

Topics:

  • Case Based Reasoning
  • Ontology
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Experience Database
  • Document management

Decision support systems (DSS)

The field of decision support systems is one of the most enduring in the information systems domain. We are paying attention to different practical DSS aspects - from software frameworks that can provide decision support to new methods and tools needed for focused practical situation.

Topics:

  • Different supporting tools and algorithms (ie. Brainstorming, voting, multi criteria rating, etc.)
  • Negotiation support systems
  • Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse
  • Group decisions support systems
  • Software support / frameworks for DSS
  • Interactive and collaborative computer-based systems
  • Specific class of computerized information system supporting business and organizational decision-making activities
  • Parallel information processing
  • Delocalization of decision-making processes
  • Increase in social inclusion as a result of collaborative work

Intelligent agents

This direction addresses our interest in intelligent systems and Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) applied in different contexts.

Topics:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Holonic systems and approach in MAS
  • Logistic and production planning (simulations based on IA/MAS)
  • Collaborative working
  • Decision support systems
